  Living in Motherwell

Motherwell is a large town in the Clyde Valley that was built on the coal and steel industries, and would go on to be Scotland’s centre of steel production during the Industrial Revolution.

Today Motherwell has its own thriving centre, with both local and popular high street stores on offer. As well as the high street itself, Motherwell also has its own shopping centre, as well as a great range of pubs, cafes and restaurants for residents to choose from. The town also has its own Adsa, Aldi and Lidl superstores. There is also the newly refurbished Motherwell Concert Hall and Theatre, where residents can enjoy plays, comedy acts and live music performances in a programme than runs throughout the year.

Also closeby to Motherwell and great for those who appreciate the great outdoors is Strathclyde Country Park, just a 5 minute drive away. Set within beautiful surroundings, the park is a popular attraction for many, including families. Events run throughout the year, such as music festivals, firework displays and guided nature walks - as well as having its own water sports centre, cafe and gym.

Popular with current residents and prospective buyers, Motherwell has favourable road and rail links, making commuting and visiting places nearby simple and easy. The town has three train stations, and the fastest trains will see you in Glasgow in just 17 minutes, whilst 45 minutes will see you arriving in Edinburgh. Services also run through to other neighbouring towns. Glasgow airport is also just a 45 minute drive away from Motherwell, therefore residents after either UK or international flights needn’t have to travel far. The town also sits close to the M74, which can be followed north to Glasgow or south to Cumbria. The M8 is also not far from Motherwell either, and links the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
