Living in Coatbridge

Coatbridge is a town in North Lanarkshire with a strong industrial history. The town was once a major centre for mining, as well as the production of iron and steel, and was known as the ‘industrial heart of Scotland’. A town proud of its heritage, Coatbridge’s former industrial life can now be explored at the Museum of Scottish Industrial Life located at the site of the former Summerlee Ironworks.

The town today has a number of local and high street shops, and is also home to a leisure centre which includes a water park and ice rink. The Drumpellier Country Park can also be found in Coatbridge and is a great location for family days out. The park features two natural lochs, one which is a site of special scientific interest, as well as 500 acres of moorland, woodland and grassland, meaning there is much to be explored.

The town is also well serviced by both bus and rail too. Regular bus services travel through to other neighbouring towns such as Hamilton and East Kilbride, whilst the railway lines cover six railway stations. Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling are also easily accessible from the town by road. Glasgow lies just 9 miles away from the town, whilst Edinburgh falls around 38 miles away and can be reached in little over an hour. Both cities are accessible by travelling along the M8, whilst Stirling can be reached by travelling on the M80 and is just 23 miles away from the town, making the town a great location for those looking to work in the nearby cities.
