   Living in Dalkeith

Dalkeith is a small town just 8 miles east of Edinburgh and the largest town in Midlothian.

Residents of Dalkeith can get to know the area in more detail by walking or cycling down the Penicuik- Dalkeith walkway. The walkway stretches for 9.5 miles along the former Edinburgh to Peebles railway, and is a great way to explore and enjoy the landscape and visitor attractions within the county.

Dalkeith Country Park is also a great place to visit if you’re a resident of the town. There are both cycling and walking trails which pass through Ancient Oaks to be enjoyed, as well as play parks for the little ones. The town is also just two miles away from the Edinburgh Butterfly and Insect World, another great location for a family day out. Dalkeith is also a great spot for anybody who fancies practicing their swing at golf, with three golf courses situated closeby. Newbattle Golf Course is within walking distance from the centre of town, whilst Kings Acre Golf Club and Broomieknowe Golf Club are both just 10 minute drives away. Other amenities in the town include supermarkets such as Morrisons, Tesco and Lidl, as well as a Sainsbury’s local. Also to be found in the town are a post office and library, as well as both primary and secondary schools.

Dalkeith also has its own train station, which can be found in the Eskbank area of the town. Direct trains can be caught through to Edinburgh and arrive within the 20 minute mark, making Dalkeith a great base for those looking to work in the city. For those looking to drive, Edinburgh is still within easy reach, and is just a half hour car journey away. The town of Musselburgh is also within easy driving distance of Dalkeith at just 5 miles away, and is well worth a visit.
