Living in Strathaven

Located in the Avon Valley, Strathaven is a historic market town located in South Lanarkshire. Surrounded by prime farmland, Strathaven is a picturesque town where the medieval origins of the town can be observed in the Common Green and despite being a bustling town, Strathaven is often noted for its country village feel.

A fascinating mix of craft and gift shops can be found in Strathaven, as well as coffee shops and restaurants, all for locals to take advantage of. The town is also host to the only hot air ballooning festival of its kind in Scotland, which attracts people from far and wide to the town annually each August. There is also a park to be enjoyed in the town, which is famous for its ‘wee train’, a miniature railway which runs weekends during the summer months - also a hit with visitors and locals alike. Strathaven also has places of historical interest to enjoy too, such as Strathaven Castle which is thought to have been built in the mid 14th century. Most interesting is the local legend of the ‘White Lady’, a lord’s wife who is said to roam the grounds of the castle.

Falling outside of Glasgow by just 18 miles, the town is a great option for those looking to commute to work and for those wanting to visit the nearby city. The city of Edinburgh is also well within reach, at just over an hours drive away via the M8. Buses also service the town, offering travel routes through to other towns closeby such as Hamilton, East Kilbride and Larkhall.
