Forget Three French Hens...

We have cute roosters, Orla Kiely hens and chicken wire instead.

So this is more about two Irish hens and a rooster than three french hens...

Either way though, we are continuing our journey through the 12 days of Christmas and day number three brings with it the perfect, poultry inspired home décor items.

Now hens, chickens and roosters may not seem like an obvious choice when it comes to an interior design theme, but we think this post could change your mind about that…

First up, to get rid of any pre-misconceptions you might have about these birds not being the best looking of the species, how cute is this hand painted rooster pitcher featured in Country Living’s 13 Cute Rooster Inspired Home Accessories blog

At the very least this would be ideal for pouring out the cocktails at the next Christmas, new year and of course hen party you’re invited to, but on a serious note, it really would look lovely in a farmhouse style, country kitchen.

However if something a little bit more modern is in order, then the super stylish Hen range by Irish designer Orla Kiely is perfect. Some of our favourite Christmas gift ideas include the hen set of tea towels which would make a great stocking filler for any of your friends who have recently become homeowners. Or how about the Hen Apron for any you know who loves to cook?

The Hen Apron - £35

If hens, chickens and roosters still don’t sound like your thing, then not to worry, you could always just go for a little chicken wire instead…

One the most on-trend, upcycling techniques appearing everywhere right now, is to replace the glass panes in cupboard doors with chicken wire. You can do it on your kitchen cupboards, dining room dressers and even living room cabinets. Here’s some inspiration from Pinterest.

This easy to do transformation looks great in shabby chic or French country style rooms featuring matt finished furniture and neutral tones. It doesn’t have to stop with cupboards either, check out some of the other fantastic uses for chicken wire featured on Homedit.com like these below...

If you’re feeling particularly crafty this Christmas, then why not take it a step further and make everyone home made presents using a little ckicken wire upcycling this year? Chicken wire makes a great notice board like the example below from Homedit. Perfect for kitchens or studies or even displaying all those extra christmas cards you received this year…
