Alan Rises Through Redrow's Ranks

New area construction manager Alan Cooke is evidence of Redrow’s commitment to nurturing home grown talent, he joined the company a decade ago as a labourer.

Alan, 47, who lives in Northampton, has worked for the award-winning housebuilder in various roles including materials controller, forklift driver and most recently site manager.

Last year he won a prestigious Pride in the Job ‘Quality’ Award from the NHBC (National House Building Council). Prior to that he was named Redrow’s site manager of the year for the South Midlands area.

“I wanted to keep my career progressing and the fact that I’ve been promoted after just a few years as a site manager demonstrates that if you work hard and have a goal to strive for you can succeed,” Alan says.

“I didn’t think it would happen so quickly, but it’s a great opportunity.”

Alan is currently overseeing work at River View and Castle Fields in Barton Seagrave, Cransley Green in Broughton, and Rockingham View in Market Harborough.

“The role of area construction manager is totally different to that of a site manager. I’m now spending time on several sites each week and keep in touch with them on a daily basis,” Alan explains.

“Coming through the ranks with Redrow has given me a good understanding of the company and the product. It also means that I can use my experience to support those who are working on site.”

John Mann, managing director for Redrow Homes (South Midlands), adds: “At Redrow we’re committed to nurturing talent and enabling people to build successful careers within the company. Alan is a hard working and valued member of the team and when the area construction manager’s role became available he was the ideal candidate.”

Redrow’s South Midlands division, with its headquarters in Northampton, directly employs 140 staff – of which 19 are trainees or apprentices – while providing work for dozens of subcontractors across its various building sites.
