Redrow Ticks All The Right Boxes For Growing Family

Looking for their ‘forever’ home ahead of the birth of their first child the Wrights had a wish list in mind and Redrow’s Oaklands Park development in Thundersley ticked all the right boxes.

Sam was pregnant with their daughter Charlotte, now six-months-old, when she and husband Dan decided to move from their small three-bedroom house in Wickford.

“We’d previously bought run down properties that needed work doing but after seeing a friend’s new-build home we restricted our search to new builds when looking for our forever family home,” Dan explains.

They looked at various new housing developments in Essex before reserving a four-bedroom Canterbury from Redrow’s Heritage Collection ‘off plan’.

“We had a wish list,” Dan recalls.

“We wanted four bedrooms, reasonable sized rooms upstairs and down, en-suite to master bedroom, a double garage and a decent amount of outside space on a development where the houses weren’t all squashed in and with options to choose the internal specification.”

At that stage homes at Oaklands Park were being sold ‘off plan’ and so the couple visited the show home at St Nicholas Mews in Basildon.

“We loved the house, that’s the crux of it,” Dan says. “And the feel of the site. It’s modern with a classic feel. Even from the site model we could see how nice it would be, not just our house but those around it too. It ticked every box. It was more than we were planning to spend, but it was an easy decision. We had seen so many new builds and after seeing the Redrow homes nothing else was anywhere near as good.”

The couple, Dan 28, who works in financial services, and Sam, 29, who works for the local council, used the My Redrow feature of the website to customise their new home.

“Sam was obsessed with My Redrow,” Dan laughs.

“The good thing about it is you can look around like an online shop without having to bother the sales consultant. We could browse online and then look at samples in the sales office or visit a show home if we wanted to see for ourselves. There were some good features, videos and brochures and online articles about the house types that helped us get excited about the house we were buying and although we couldn’t go into the house we could take a virtual tour. The floor plan showed that the rooms were spacious but we were impressed when we moved in that they were more generously proportioned than they’d seemed.”

The couple also praised the standard of customer care from both the sales and build teams describing them as approachable, friendly and knowledgeable.

Dan says: “Buying a house can be a stressful experience at the best of times, particularly when you hope it will be your forever home, and it was nice to feel that Leon the sales consultant was excited with us rather than just giving us cold hard facts. He always did what he could to help us. We never felt like we were bothering him and although he was busy he made us feel like he had all the time in the world for us.”

He adds: “The site team also went out of their way to ensure we were happy with our new home and there are lots of little things they’ve done for us that they didn’t have to. I would definitely recommend Redrow. The people from start to finish have been fantastic and that makes a big difference.”

Availability at Oaklands Park is now limited, but there’s still plenty of choice of new Redrow homes across Essex at St Nicholas Mews and Westley Green in Basildon.
