How We Use Our Guest Bedroom

One of the toughest decisions about moving house 6 months ago was leaving our immediate families behind.

For me it was especially difficult leaving my parents, who had been such a great help to me when the twins were born.
Having my own Mum on hand and there for support and advice over the last few years has been invaluable.
When my Husband and I made the decision to move 100 miles away due to work reasons we were very excited, as there were many prospects ahead for our own little family.

And there was a lot to gain from our starting our new life. But leaving loved ones behind was very hard.

Therefore - as part of the home selection process - finding a house big enough to have them all to visit and stay frequently was extremely important to us.

We wanted them to feel welcome and for the house to be inviting.

It was a crucial consideration of the move.
Most of the older properties within our price range only offered us a maximum of 3 bedrooms – which would mean a great deal of hassle and upheaval whenever we had guests. But the new build homes we viewed offered us exactly what we wanted, and more.
They gave us at least 4 bedrooms, more space, plus en-suite facilities.
We in fact finally bought a 5-bedroomed executive style family home, which we adore. And what we love even more is that it gives us the much-needed space for our parents, other family members and our friends to come and stay whenever they like.
It has a large double guest room, with an en-suite, and so it is comfortable and practical for any guests. It is also quiet as it is away from the children’s bedrooms and not directly above the living room.

Style wise it is classic-modern - using some pieces from our previous country cottage home. I have kept the room neutral and added touches of green décor such as a bedspread, curtains and prints.
We have put in a double bed and bedside tables, as well as a chest of drawers. We just need to add in a wardrobe to allow guests to hang their clothes.
I think I will paint the room this year and perhaps change the furniture to a more contemporary look, but for now it is more than comfortable and practical enough for our much loved guests.
Other families on our new build development have their spare bedroom as a study or a dressing room. The beauty of new build homes is that they are really versatile and flexible to modern living.
Having the guest bedroom always made up and ready for visitors is perfect and ideal for us, as it means that our family can come and visit the twins (and us!) at any time. Which means that we all get to see far more of each other and spend quality time together!
