   Living in Gartcosh

Gartcosh is a village located in North Lanarkshire. Originally an agricultural village, Gartcosh eventually became known for its role in Scotland’s Industrial Revolution thanks to the number of mines in the local area during the 19th century, as well as iron and fireclay works.

The village today has a number of local amenities such as a village shop, tea house, hairdressers and pharmacy. The village is also home to a nature reserve, an important site for protected species and plants which fall highly on the local council's biodiversity and action plan. Also to be found in the village is Gartcosh primary school and Lochview children’s nursery, which falls into the very good category for the quality of care and support offered to children as well as the staff - great for those looking to move with young children.

Gartcosh also has its own railway station, which offers a direct rail service through to Glasgow, Cumbernauld and Falkirk, whilst Edinburgh can be reached via either the Glasgow or Falkirk stations. The village is also well connected by road, with motorway access to cities such as Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling and Carlisle. Towns such as Hamilton, Coatbridge, Cumbernauld and Falkirk can also be reached easily by car.
