As Christmas grows ever nearer and the time for festivities is almost here, what could be more Christmassy than wrapping up warm and braving the cold winter weather to take a visit to magical light displays around the country? All of the attractions on our list offer their own wonderful take on light displays and all of them are perfect for a Christmas day out. 
 

Kew Gardens – Christmas at Kew 


If you can get to the beautiful Kew gardens then their ‘Christmas at Kew’ is well worth the visit. You can take a trip down the twinkling trail lit up by over one million sparkling lights. And there is plenty more to see as well, from a flickering fire garden and giant baubles to The Palm House which has an incredible performance including laser beams, jets of light and kaleidoscopic projections. You can also turn your visit into a full family occasion where the kids can take a trip to the North Pole village to see Santa and his elves. Be sure to set a date to visit now, Christmas at Kew runs from 22nd November to 1st January.

 

Blenheim Palace


Blenheim Palace will light up its Formal Gardens once again for yet another year of stunning illuminations.  The trail of lights will lead you down winding paths, exquisite landscapes and peaceful waters, all interspersed with beautiful displays. You can even enjoy your journey while sipping on a mulled wine, spiced cider or a hot chocolate to both warm you up and fill you with Christmas cheer. This event is running from the 24th November to 1st January.

 

Magical lantern Festival 


Take a visit to one of the four Magical Lantern Festivals located around the UK this year. You will be stunned by the magical life-size handcrafted lanterns that come in many weird and wonderful forms: from a Gingerbread House in Birmingham to Santa and his reindeers in Leeds. You will also have the chance to enjoy your night of wonder accompanied by food, drink, fairground rides and Santa’s grotto for the kids. Whichever Magic Lantern Festival you decide to visit, one thing is for sure, you will not be disappointed.  These festivals are open from the 24th November to 1st January 

 

Eden Project Festival of Light and sound 


Visiting the Eden Project at Christmas is a truly magical experience. They put on a dazzling light and sound show complete with a winter landscape transformed by light projections, theatrical soundscapes and live music. All of this can be enjoyed alongside seasonal food from their cafes as well and if you book in advance, you take the kids to meet Santa and his elves too, or have a skate on the ice rink and take a trip through the festive plant displays. The Festival of Light and Sound will be on from 25th November to the 30th December  
 

All of the above are just a handful of some of the incredible light displays happening in the UK this year.
