Quick And Easy Summer Garden Updates

After a gloomy start to 2018, many of us are really embracing the summer weather this year. More and more of us are spending time outdoors in the garden, so now is a great time to give your outdoor space a quick summer update to keep it in check with the grand weather.

So, here are six quick and easy summer garden updates you can make to add a summery feel to your garden this season.

Get planting!

If your garden is already in full summer bloom then there's no need to worry, but if your garden is looking a little bit sparse and lacking in colour, adding in a few more potted plants will instantly add a more summery feel to your outdoor space. You don't need to spend a fortune on planters either, recycle can and jars for your floral display - just remember to add drainage holes and a layer of stones in the bottom.

Paint furniture...and maybe even the shed too!

Paint is a really easy way to update old pieces of furniture such as a table and chairs or a garden bench. Unless pieces are broken beyond repair, paint can be a great way to give old and tired looking pieces a new lease of life. For a summery feel, go for bright and bold colours to really add a summer vibe to your garden - just make sure you use a paint that's suitable for outdoor use. If you've got a shed or summerhouse, why not give this a lick of paint too? If it's looking a little bit shabby after making it through the winter months, paint will help to make your garden feel fresh and the shed will become a bright and cheery focal point of your garden - perfect for summer.

Add some outdoor lighting

As it stays lighter for longer in the summer, get togethers with family and friends can last well into the evening. When the light does start to go however, it's always handy to have some outdoor lighting at the ready - both for practicality and for creating a chilled and relaxed atmosphere in your garden. Solar lights are a good bet and you can also try lining garden paths with paper lanterns or hanging glass jars with candles (real or battery powered) from the trees and popping them on tables too.

Create a seating area

Whether it's a table and chairs, a bench or a whole outdoor seating area that resembles a living room, what better way to enjoy the glorious summer weather than sitting back and relaxing on a comfy seat? There's plenty out there to suit all budgets and garden size, it's just a case of having a good shop around!

Add in some soft furnishings

Which brings us nicely onto adding in some cushions and throws over the backs of chairs. Throws are great for keeping guests warm as they stay late into the evening, whilst cushions will provide much needed comfort for longer days spent sat outside in the garden. Pick up soft furnishings in bright colours or opt for pretty pastel shades to keep things on trend.

Hang up some bunting!

Bunting is a great option for anybody looking to throw a party in the garden during the summer months - nothing says there's a party quite like it! But party or no party, bunting is a quick way to add a festive and summery feel to your outdoor space and it's easy to take up and down and move around. You can pick some up in the shops or make your own in a colourway that works for you.

So there we have it! Six simple summer garden updates that can be done in no time at all, meaning you can continue to make the most of the summer sun in a garden that looks and feels like summer!
