Redrow Home Is Where Tom's Heart Is

They say home is where the heart is – and that’s certainly true for 23-year-old Tom Kelly

For within minutes of getting the keys to his brand new Redrow home at Ledsham Garden Village, West Cheshire, with girlfriend Amy Tomlinson, the first-time buyer got down on one knee and popped the question.
“And she said ‘yes’,” said Tom.
“I’m not normally the most romantic of people but it seemed right. We have been together now for seven years and buying a home together was the next step, a new chapter. It seemed like the right time to propose.”
The couple from Buckley, North Wales, have now moved into their Ludlow style home at Oaklands, part of Ledsham Garden Village, in Little Sutton.
Tom, who also works for Redrow as an assistant health, safety and environment manager, revealed: “I had been planning the proposal for a while so I’d had a bouquet of flowers delivered which the sales consultant had taken inside. We collected the keys and walked to our home and, as we went in, I went down on one knee and asked Amy to marry me.
“We’d got a bottle of champagne ready, so we celebrated our new home AND our good news with a glass of fizz.”

Tom and Amy celebrate their engagement at their new home in Ledsham Garden Village

Tom met Amy, 25, a deputy store manager for Aldi, after being set up on a date by his best friend: “And the rest, as they say, is history!”
They had been renting for 10 months before they moved into the Ledsham Road development, anxious to get onto the housing ladder: “That way the money we pay out each month now goes towards our new home and to us, rather than going to a landlord.”
The couple chose the three-bedroom semi-detached Ludlow because they loved the open plan kitchen and dining area, which Tom says is “great for gathering when friends come round”. They also found it to be “bright and airy” and, whilst one of the smaller properties at Ledsham Garden Village, still quite spacious.
Tom adds: “We liked the development because it wasn’t far from where we lived previously and it’s in a nice area.  We chose a property at the bottom of a cul-de-sac so it’s quite private and from our lounge window we have a lovely view with lots of open space, and it’s in a corner position which gets lots of sunlight.”
For two young first-time buyers, the Ludlow was also in their price bracket and especially affordable thanks to Help to Buy.  With a government-backed equity loan for 20% of the purchase price (interest free for five years) they only had to find a 5% deposit and 75% mortgage.
“In honesty, we wouldn’t have been able to buy it without Help to Buy, it brought the initial price down and it also meant that any spare money we have can be spent on furniture and things we need for the house now; it gives us a little breathing space,” Tom explains.
Tom says the house already feels like home for the pair: “And it’s nice to have our own space - and no parents nagging!” he jokes.
“We haven’t set a date for the wedding yet, we’ll need to save up again first. But we have got our own first home and now we can start looking forward to the rest of our lives together.”
Ledsham Garden Village boasts two neighbouring developments, Oaklands and Sycamore Green, separated by a central boulevard, and will eventually become a sustainable new community of up to 2,000 homes with around 100 acres of open space.
The current phases are sold up but there is a new phase of three and four-bedroom homes from Redrow’s award-winning Heritage Collection coming soon at Oaklands.
