Lighting Technology For Your Home

Learn a little more about lighting technology and why you should switch to smart lighting.

As the world of technology accelerates at high speed, other industries are wanting to ride the wave and implement technology into their own products. One of the more recent areas experiencing this kind of technology crossover is lighting. As lighting technology develops, new opportunities and products are coming to market which can offer some great benefits that make it well worth changing those incandescent light bulbs you currently have.

Moreover the number of people that are buying smart lighting is increasing as more companies invest in the technology and it becomes more of a normal household item. So, what are some of the main benefits of upgrading to intelligent lighting?

Firstly, smart lighting now offers a wide range of products you can choose from, with some offering more than others when it comes to features and quality.

Philips Hue is the most popular smart technology choice. Especially if you want to ease your way into lighting technology at first, as they offer the ‘Hue white’. This gives you the option of controlling your lighting from your phone anywhere, anytime but the lighting colour is locked to just white.

The downside of only getting the white hue bulb is you are severely limiting yourself when to comes to what's actually available. For example, Phillips also offer the Hue Connected bulb, which allows you to control everything from picking the colour you want to light up the room, to setting individual bulb timings or combining the two and setting up the bulbs to change to a certain colour at a certain time for an interactive home experience.

Another reason for investing in smart lighting is that they are typically more eco-friendly and efficient that older generation bulbs. The use of LED bulbs uses less energy and they also don’t need replacing as often, which even though they cost more to buy at first, in the long run, could leave you spending less.

Smart lighting can be a great way to make your house secure too. With certain lighting kits you can link it into other security systems so if certain things are triggered, a particular light can come on and you can even specify what colour that light should be.
